Bottom Assembly (14/24)

Approved

Well, almost everything is ready in order to assemble the bottom of the engine. The paint on the block has polymerized, the details are prepared. We put a book next to the tables of tightening torques of the connections, a torque wrench. We collect.

We put the crankshaft in the block, install the main bearing caps in their places. Mine were marked with numbers, for those who don’t, I hope they marked them with a core during parsing. Tighten the main bearing caps. Screw in the sensor.

Here you can already see better how the Motip paint lay on the block, because. photos were taken on a normal device (thanks to Kreng), and not on a phone.

We collect pistons and connecting rods. Those who read the previous entry in the log know that I used budget Autowelt pistons. But since the main task of the pistons is not to melt, but the rings work in the cylinder, so we don’t save on them. My choice is Kolbenschmidt.

Type-setting oil scraper from m42 – first we put the spring part, then thin rings, making sure that the ends of the spring do not nest one into the other. Compression – look at the marking – TOP, respectively, top. Kolbenschmidt rings come with detailed instructions with pictures.

We connect the connecting rods and pistons. Carefully! The arrow on the bottom of the piston should look at the front of the engine (where the belt is), the locks of the liners on the connecting rods should look towards the outlet. Thank you, Masterpiano, for reminding me about the piston pin circlips – the gap in the thrust ring should be in the direction of piston movement.

Before installation in the cylinders, we breed the locks of the rings. There are two main options:

Bottom Assembly120 degree
Bottom Assemblycross to cross

I did the second option, because. when distributing 120 degrees, one of the locks, whatever one may say, is either near the piston thrust surface or near the piston pin.
